Starting in the 1970s, UH Mānoa had a summer field school for Archaeology students at Kualoa Park. Many artifacts were recovered and studies conducted during these field schools. However, according to Dr. Hal Hammatt, a long-time Archaeologist who has done a lot of work at Kualoa over decades, including leading the field school, there is much more work to be done. Re-establishing a field school will fit well into the cultural and educational theme for the plan and aligns with the 1991 Cultural Resources Management Plan for the park. Community members expressed that this should not only service university level students, but people of all ages, especially children.

Goal: Re-establish an Archaeological Field School for not just university students, but K-12 students to get them interested in connecting with the ʻāina and learning about culture, history and potential careers in Archaeology at an early age.
